The night of Feb. 27 was one for the ladies.

At least, that's what the Monroe County YMCA HTC Center said.

Hosting Ladies Night Out, the YMCA wanted a forum for everything women to make an appearance, hoping to let females know they could have an evening just for themselves.Spread out around the facility, located at 9514 Caring Way in Columbia, the event featured a slew of local organizations and businesses intent on promoting their goods and helping keep women aware of health issues.

One of these businesses was Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in Waterloo, which was featuring the newest machine in facial therapy. Called Beautiful Image Facial and Body Sculpting, the apparatus provides a non-surgical faceprint to tighten and firm facial features.

"It uses a microcurrent to send signals to the muscles and cells in the skin to provide a more youthful appearance," Merle Norman licensed esthetician Joni Cygan said. "The results are immediate and very effective."

Besides smoothing out the skin, the machine is also useful for treating acne and for stimulating facial muscles in stroke victims.

Prior to undergoing the one hour procedure, patients take a before picture so they can see the difference.

"Some people only require one session if they just want to look good for an evening out while others may come back for six to eight treatments," Cygan said.

To promote this new technology, Cygan said Merle Norman will host a promotion March 27 in which 10 people can receive the treatment for free. All that's required is an appointment, but times are filling up fast so don't delay.

"We have about three seats left," Cygan said.

Another business on the premises was Avida Pure Natur Salon and Day Spa in Columbia. They offered makeup, hair and skin supplies and complimentary hand massages.

"We had a lot of people come by and check us out," Heather Reifschneider, manager of the store, said.

Reifschneider particularly wanted to promote the store's new line of lipstick called Vanilla Mint.

"There are some unique flavors and it plumps the lips in two weeks for 70 percent of those who use it," Reifschneider said.
