Helmets First of Columbia looking for sponsors
Cangas, the owner of Illini Pediatrics and founder of Helmets First, can't do all this charity on his own, which is why any community help would be appreciated. "We will be doing a 'wrap' on the vehicle," Cangas said. "Sponsorship is $1,000 guaranteed to be on the vehicle for three years, but more likely five."The space will be limited to five sponsors to limit distractions for the purpose of the vehicle and to make those who do sponsor more visible. "Sponsors will go on the back of the truck or trailer," Cangas said. "Any donation for helmets will be accepted as well." For anyone who has seen Cangas driving around town in his Helmets First mobile, they can imagine what the final product will look like. The sponsorship would be a good investment, as Cangas has heightened the profile of Helmets First since its founding in 2004. He has given out over 2,000 free helmets to community organizations and children, provided helmet education to over 3,000 children and given rewards to local children for proper helmet usage with the help of the Columbia, Waterloo and Salem police departments. Local upcoming events involving Helmets First include a Bicycle Rodeo in Waterloo on Saturday, an appearance at the Columbia School Picnic on May 17, a Bicycle Rodeo in Belleville on June 28 and an appearance at Safety Town on June 24 and July 8 in Columbia. |
