The Waterloo Mon-Clair baseball team enjoyed a highly successful 4th of July weekend in Valmeyer.

The Millers defeated Marissa (13-3) on Friday, Belleville (14-4) on Saturday and on the St. Louis Spikes (12-5) on Sunday en route to claiming the title of the 36th Annual Midsummer Classic at Twyla & Alois Luhr Field in Borsch Memorial Park in Valmeyer.

Overall, Waterloo outscored its three foes 39-12 while capturing its third Midsummer Classic championship in four years. A 4-run first inning capped by Craig Ohlau's round tripper kickstarted the Millers' attack Sunday. The Spikes, last year's tournament champion, drew within 4-2 before Jake Hurst's two-run homer in the fifth built the Waterloo lead back to 6-2. The Millers coasted from there.Brandon Musso went the first six innings for the win. Mark Mueller finished up in relief, as the Millers improved to 22-1 on the season.

In other action Sunday, the St. Louis Printers defeated Fairview Heights 18-5 in the fifth place game and Belleville toppled Valmeyer 13-2 in the third place contest.
