The following involves the Valmeyer School District, 300 S. Cedar Bluff Drive:

-Wednesday: 4:15 p.m. High school soccer at home vs. Valley Park; 4:15 p.m. Junior high softball and baseball at Marissa; high school volleyball in Labor Day tournament at Marissa, Valmeyer vs. Mehlville; 7 p.m. Band Instrument Display Night;-Thursday: High school golf at Monroe County Tournament; 4:30 p.m. High school soccer at Christian High School in O'Fallon, Mo.; 4:30 p.m. High school volleyball in Labor Day tournament at New Athens, Valmeyer vs. DuQuoin;

-Friday: 4:30 p.m. High school soccer at home vs. Lebanon; 4:15 p.m. Junior high softball and baseball at home vs. Smithton; high school volleyball in Labor Day

tournament.

-School is in session. Drive carefully and watch for students in crosswalks.

Fall church picnic planned

The fall church picnic will be from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 21 in Valmeyer. This event is jointly sponsored by St. John United Church of Christ and St. Mary Catholic Church. Food is available to eat in or carry out. People can enjoy the Country Store, plenty of games for kids and adults, a silent auction, raffles, attendance prizes and a cake walk

And don't forget plenty of great music all day with the following schedule: 11 a.m. Terry Roberson, the singing Cowboy Poet; noon The Hilltoppers; 1 p.m. The Tappers tap dance troupe; 2 p.m. The Bud Light Brigade; 3 p.m. Thunder and Lightning Cloggers; 4 p.m. Joe Powell, gospel singer.

That time of year

It's apple butter time at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer. They will be cooking beginning at the crack of dawn Sept. 27.

Anyone who would like to see how apple butter is cooked or would like to help, feel free to stop by and check it out. Cost is $8 per quart or $4.50 per pint. For an advanced order, contact Pat Garleb at 935-2413 or Joyce Rippelmeyer at 935-2452.

Centennial committee scheduled 2009

The Valmeyer Village Board of Trustees has authorized the formation of a committee to begin planning festivities and events for the Centennial of the Village to be celebrated during 2009.

Anyone interested in serving on that committee and helping to plan the festivities should contact Laurie at Village Hall.

The following involves the community of Valmeyer:

-Sept. 25 and Dec. 11: Village of Valmeyer large item pickup dates for 2008;

-Sept. 27: 7 p.m. Annual Valmeyer Party at the Park. More details to follow;

-Sept. 27: Annual Melvin Fisher Hills and Hollows Half Marathon and 5K run. More details to follow. For additional information, to register for the event, or to sign up as a volunteer visit www.hillsandhollows.org;

-Oct. 4: Village of Valmeyer community-wide garage sale;

-Oct. 25: The Valmeyer High School classes of 1988 and 1989 are planning a reunion beginning at 6 p.m. at The Acorns Golf Course Club House, 3933 Ahne Road, Waterloo. For more information contact 1988 Class President Tina Bivins or 1989 Class President Christine (White) Lung. Payment and reservations should be sent to event Treasurer Kim (Knobloch) Feldker at 2544 Trout Camp Road, Waterloo. RSVP is requested as soon as possible or by Oct. 17;

-Nov. 1: The Valmeyer Centennial Committee will have its first "Valmeyer Centennial Spooktacular" Halloween Dance at St. Mary Parish Center, 101 S. Meyer Ave., Valmeyer, with music by Fountain Creek Band. Tickets are $10 each and are on sale now at Mike's Convenience, Valmeyer Village Hall, First Bank in Valmeyer and State Bank in Valmeyer. The Valmeyer Centennial Committee is sponsoring this event to raise funds for Valmeyer's Centennial Festivities in 2009;

-The Valmeyer Vikings baseball team is currently selling 2009 Entertainment Books. For purchase information call Susan Unterseh at 935-2370;
